Give it a Go is an activities programme full of fabulous activities and sports for you to try. It gives you the chance to try new things, meet new people, learn new skills and visit different places. Look out for the booklet as it is bursting with fun and exciting things, all run at a beginner's level.
With the Give it a Go programme you can try canoeing, zumba, foreign languages and even board a coach for one of our day trips or weekends away! All the activities work on a pay as you go basis, so just buy a ticket in advance from the Students' Union Box Office and turn up. Simple!
Every year thousands of students take part in Give it a Go, and you should too! It's a fantastic way to have great experiences, makes new friends and discovers new hobbies.
There are four main programmes throughout the year: Intro, Autumn, Spring and Summer so there is definitely something for everybody.

Unfortunately, any tickets purchased are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged/transferred. If the event organiser cancels the activity, a full refund will be given.
A big part of what we do is run trips to popular cities across the UK and visit famous tourist attractions. Throughout term we travel every weekend up and down the country giving you the chance see new places without the hassle of you catching public transport. On our trips you will be led by one of Team Give it a Go, the leader takes care of the times and pick up points whilst you sit back and enjoy the ride. Everything will be taken care of for you.
In the event of snow or other adverse weather conditions, please meet at Glossop Road at the allocated time and a decision will be made on the day by the coach driver.

Had an idea and want to run your own Give it a Go event? Well this is how. Many of the GIAG activities are run by clubs and societies as it's a great way to generate income for your student group, recruit new members, gain publicity for your club/society and gain leadership and planning skills. Team Give it a Go are a group of student staff employed by the Students' Union to help make Give it a Go activities run smoothly. Their main role is to act as a Day Trip Leader for our fantastic coach trips.
They take care of the group by providing essential information about the trip, give out helpful hand outs, liaise with the coach driver and staff at the attractions and are of course a friendly face to help with any questions you might have on the day. Team Give it a Go will take care of everything for you. So you can sit back, relax and enjoy your day out.
You'll also see Team Give it a Go at the Activities Fair, leading events in Intro Week and generally around the Students' Union building. Make sure you say 'hello', they're a really friendly bunch and are keen to meet new people!

Fancy learning a language? Give it a Go offers short beginners courses which are perfect for holiday, preparation for your year abroad, chatting with friends as well as an added extra on your CV. Plus they're fun!
Our courses are interactive and interesting with course content covering reading, writing, speaking and listening, plus you'll also learn about the culture. In the past we ordered food in a French restaurant and marvelled at Japanese art in Western Bank Museum.
