Relaxation

The exam period can be stressful - look after yourself, your housemates and friends

Exams affect people in different ways. You and your housemates & friends can help each other get through it.

If you all revise at home, why not all have lunch together or stop for a tea break. If you revise on campus, make time to go for a coffee with course mates. If you revise on your own, make time to meet up with friends, ring home or catch up on Facebook!

Take a break

Take a break and make time to relax.

Most people cannot concentrate on revision over long periods of time. It varies for everyone, but working for no less than 20 minutes and no longer than 3 hours in any one revision slot is a good guide. You can waste time by trying to revise too much at once. Less really can be more!

Small chunks of studying are more effective than long slogs or all-nighters. Regular breaks will help you stay refreshed, relaxed and focused during the exam period.

  • Get some exercise – going for a swim, playing sport or just going for a walk round the park can clear your head between revision slots. You’ll feel much better for it
  • Be nice to yourself! – reward yourself for all your hard work with little treats every now & then. It can make it easier to revise a long topic if there is something to look forward to at the end
  • Make time to relax – have a bath, watch a film, read a (non-academic) book, phone your family
