Personal or Health Problems

Personal or health problems – tell your department & use the special circumstances form

Personal or health problems can throw your revision/exams into chaos. Student Advice Centre is happy to help you discuss your situation and explore your options.

  • If you are worried about something interfering with your exam preparation, you need to let your department know as soon as possible
  • You should try to talk to your personal tutor, but it is also essential to complete the special circumstances form
  • If your problems are health related you should ask the University Health Service or your own doctor to provide details on the special circumstances form for you
  • The special circumstances form ensures your problems are taken into account by the University. You might be able to defer your exams until you are better, or have your problems considered by the examiners when your exams are marked
  • Remember it isn’t straightforward to have problems taken into account after the results are published. You have to give a good reason why you didn’t to tell the University earlier

If you need someone to talk to about your problems see our useful links section.
