Help! I’ve Failed an Exam!

Non-final year students

Failing an exam doesn’t always mean you’ve failed the year. Depending on your programme of study and results in other modules, you may be allowed to continue onto the next level. This is defined as a 'conceded pass'.

If not granted a conceded pass, you will need to re-sit your failed modules before continuing onto the next level of your course.

If granted a conceded pass, you can opt to re-sit failed modules.

Re-sits (apart from at Level 1) are capped at a basic pass.

Final year students

If you have not been awarded a degree because of final year exam failure, you will normally be allowed one opportunity to re-sit. These re-sits usually take place the following academic year rather than the August re-sit period.

If you have to re-sit final year modules, you can only achieve a basic degree rather than a classified, honours degree.
