Pick up some FREE wildflower seed. Plant it. WIN real Sheffield Honey!

Fancy helping bees, brightening your back yard and potentially winning some lovely local honey? Plant some wildlflowers in your garden!

Wildflower and Bumblebee

The lovely Ethical and Environmental Committee (in the Plaza next to the Welcome Desk) and the super Student's Union Shop (by their tills) will both be giving wildflower seeds out for free during Spring Into Nature week, 29th April to 3rd May. We've got hundreds and hundreds of packs, (more than enough to cover the 670m2 a full size tennis court including the doubles tramlines!) So grab yours and bee part of something amazing!

Plus, if helping the bees and making your garden pretty wasn't enough, we're also running a competition with 30 chances to win lovely honey-based prizes. We're really keen these seeds don't just sit on a shelf, so get planting to win! Just send us a photo of you planting your wildflower seeds!

Wildflower Seed Packets

THE PRIZES! Your chances to win: Every week for 3 weeks, the first 5 photo submissions will receive jars of honey AND all other submissions will be put into a prize draw with at least 5 more chances to win. The odds are good, the stakes are high, and when you've planted them you'll feel good about yourself, your garden will be pretty and the bees will love you. What are you waiting for?!

How do I go about planting wildflower seeds?

We like this wildflower tips video from the wildlifegardenfilm channel. And read the instructions on the packet we give you!

Biodiversity Improvements to the Interval Beer Garden

Competition time - for the biodiverse redesign of the Interval Garden at the Student's Union.

Prizes to be won!

This is a competition being jointly run by the Students' Union Environmental Coordinator (Tim Allen) and Landmark Society, as part of the Spring Into Nature campaign.

Our vision for the Students' Union garden is for it to be a space which provides benefit to a range of plants, insect and bird life as diverse as the students who use it!

However, the vision needs to take account of the primary use of the garden – as a social space for Sheffield students. The best designs will balance practicality, biodiversity enhancement and budget, to create a template for a wonderful space which future generations of students (and wildlife) will enjoy!

Remember that this is a competition about ideas- we can't promise the winning ones will all be put into practice straight away, but we will use them for future plans.

Submission date: 22nd April @ 5PM - to greenstudentsunion@sheffield.ac.uk, or hand in to the Arts Tower Floor 11 Computer Room

Prizes

As well as the warm glow from helping biodiversity, there are also great prizes available for taking part in the Interval Biodiverse Garden Design Competition!

1st prize: £25 Interval vouchers PLUS a nice biodiverse choice: EITHER a window-mounted RSPB bird feeder OR an FSC-certified wooden "bug hotel!"

Runners up x 2 : £10 Interval vouchers

PLUS- FIRST 5 ENTRIES EACH GET £5 INTERVAL VOUCHERS!
