BIDBI Private Accommodation (Clear Sacks) Collections*

What is the BIDBI Clear Sack scheme?

A scheme for students in private accommodation in selected postcodes to donate reusable items. There is a system of clear sacks for donating, on set dates (see below).

For why we're doing this, check out our BRING IT DON'T BIN IT VIDEO:

Working with local charities, we're collecting your good reusable items so they go to good use instead of landfill or the incinerator (like unfortunately the red sacks do!). All your items that you put in clear sacks will either go straight to local homeless and disadvantaged people or will help raise money for good causes.

Don't get the 2 schemes confused:

  • Red sacks= rubbish only. This will go to the incinerator
  • Clear sacks= reusable items for charity (full list below)

(∓ we're NOT collecting your paper/cans etc for recycling, you should use your usual blue bins for that. Charity shop type stuff only please!)

Where Can I Get the BIDBI Clear Sacks?

Through the Students' Union Welcome Desk, Property With Us, the Student Advice Centre and the Ethical and Environmental Committee, from Monday 27th May onwards until Sunday 30th June. Look out for the "Bring It Don't Bin It- Collection point- get your clear sacks here" signs.

When you pick up the sacks, the person handing them to you should check whether your street is in an area we're making collections from (see below).

We are contacting some large landlords about the scheme so they may also give you bags- make sure they tell us your address though, otherwise we might miss your street.

You will also be given a leaflet with the clear sacks which explains the collection process in more detail.

Where and When Are Collections Being Made?

The dates of collections are:

  • Friday 7th June & then every Monday & Thursday
  • Monday 10th June
  • Thursday 13th June
  • Monday 17th June
  • Thursday 20th June
  • Monday 24th June
  • Thursday 27th June
  • Monday 1st July

Please put your bags out before 9.30am on the morning of the collection date - not overnight, to avoid the risk of theft.

We will collect from your street if your postcode starts with: S3 7.., S6 3.., S10 1.., S10 2.., or S10 5.. *

*If you do not live in one of these postcode sectors we are sorry but we're unable to collect from your street. As Bring It Don't Bin It street collections are run by charity volunteers we have decided to only collect from areas of very high student population density, to maximise the efficiency of the scheme.

However, you can still bring your reusable items to the Bring It Don't Bin It collection point in the Students' Union Plaza between Tuesday 28th May and around midday on Friday 7th June or, of course, take it to a local charity shop if you're able.

If you live in a purpose-built student complex e.g. Opal 1/3, Aspect 3, IQ Brocco/ Mappin, Omnia, Unite etc, please ask your accommodation provider for more information about any special arrangements there.
