Ethical and Environmental

From hosting the Shared Planet conference to our annual EEK Week, Sheffield Students’ Union wants to raise awareness of how we can all pitch in to make the ethical choice and to keep the planet from harm.

But it’s not just about letting other people know what they can do – we do our bit too! Last year we were awarded the Silver Sound Impact Award, an environmental accreditation scheme for Students’ Unions, and we’re always aiming to improve.

Ethical and Environmental

There are loads of ways you can get involved with ethical and environmental issues around the Students' Union. See something you want to change? Why not work together with a group which is passionate about the same issues as you: Contact the Students' Union Ethical and Environmental Committee, or join the People and Planet Society. Alternatively, speak to Natasha (Natasha.Hallett@sheffield.ac.uk) or Neil (N.MacKenzie@sheffield.ac.uk) in Democracy and Representation, for campaigns support.

If you’d like to take a few hours out to do hands-on, worthwhile volunteering projects, try SheffieldVolunteering, (look for their Environmental/Conservation section), or contact the Conservation Volunteering Committee. Many of our other societies get involved in environmental action too- from swap shops to building a DIY wind turbine! Come along to the Activities Information Point in the Activities and Sports Zone for advice on who’s doing what and how you can play your part.

Explore this Ethical and Environmental section of the site to find out how else you can do your bit, and don't forget to let us know how we're doing. To ask for more information or to suggest how we can improve, post on the Ethical and Environmental uForums, or contact the Students’ Union’s Environmental Coordinator directly: Tim Allen, T.R.Allen@sheffield.ac.uk.
