Zero Tolerance to Sexual Harassment

Sheffield Students' Union has a zero tolerance approach to sexual harassment. This means no student should have to accept the following behaviours:

  • Unwanted sexual comments/invitations
  • Groping, pinching or smacking of your body
  • Having your clothes lifted without agreeing
  • Someone exposing themselves to you without consent.

If you experience this whilst you're in the Students' Union you can report it to any member of security or area supervisor/manager. Staff will take your details and the details of the person who is bothering you and they will be removed immediately from the building. Staff will also tell you how you can follow up on the complaint, should you wish. The Students' Union will take all complaints of sexual harassment seriously.

We believe all students, men and women, should be able to enjoy the Students' Union without experiencing sexual harassment.

Any report of sexual harassment will be dealt with, as far as possible, according to the wishes of the complainant. Our aim is to act proportionately whilst coming to a resolution that the complainant is happy with.

If you have been affected by sexual harassment and/or want advice or further information you can contact the Women's Officer (womens.officer@Sheffield.ac.uk, 0114 222 8608) or the Student Advice Centre (advice@sheffield.ac.uk, 0114 222 8660).
