MA in Planning and Development

The 12 month MA in Planning and Development offers students from a wide range of backgrounds the opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge relevant to a career in surveying. These capabilities will then be developed, synthesised and applied through a major project and additional option modules. This project involves inter-disciplinary work both planning students and property students following the MA in Commercial Property route. An individually supervised dissertation completes the year. The course is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) of which graduates will be eligible for membership once the necessary practice requirements have been met.

London Property Field Trip

Each November we conduct a field trip to London. This is before the deadlines for job applications to the major industry employers. We meet Graduate Recruitment teams, HR representatives, and Senior figures from leading industry providers to find out more about what it is like to work for them and to ask questions about the application process.

Employability

The employability of our graduates is of paramount importance to us. Maximising employability underpins our course design and all our modules. We further enhance our graduates' employability through additional activities.

Dissertation Prize

The IPFET Dissertation Prize is awarded each year, it is awarded by the Investment Property Forum Educational Trust, a charity established by professional practice, which seeks to advance education in the area of property investment.

Work Experience

The University's Careers Service provides a comprehensive range of careers support for students, including jobs and work experience vacancies, advice on career planning, and help with applications and interviews. While we don't necessarily require you to have work experience to be offered a place on the course (dependent on your academic achievements), we certainly encourage it.

Criteria for Admissions

All applications are treated individually. The usual entry requirement is a 2:1 degree or evidence of equivalent achievement (for example, a professional qualification combined with work experience). Applications are also welcomed from candidates with a 2:2 degree, although evidence of work experience or other activity is generally expected.
