Sponsored Property Field Trip

Each year we run a field trip to London which is sponsored by the Investment Property Forum Educational Trust (IPFET).  

The IPFET seeks to advance education in the area of property investment. The IPFET also supports and promotes research into the operation of the property investment market and regularly funds leading research projects in this area In addition to this the Investment Property Forum (IPF) is an independent membership organisation aimed at improving the awareness, understanding and efficiency of property as an investment.

Meet employers and recruitment specialists

The field trip takes place in November, in the run up to the deadlines for job applications to the major industry employers. We meet Graduate Recruitment and HR representatives, to find out more about what it is like to work for them and to ask questions about the application process.

Contributors have included: IPD, Savills, Gerald Eve, RBS, Grosvenor, CBRE, Drivers Jonas Deloitte - tour of King's Cross Development Scheme, INVESCO, RICS, PruPIM (Prudential Property Investment Managers), AEG Europe - Tour of the O2 Arena, Lande Securities - Tour of One New Change - Shopping centre in the heart of London, Fidelity Investments, PPR (Property Portfolio Research), KASPAR Associates, Hotel Rafayel - award winning environmentally conscious luxury hotel in Battersea.

The Field Trip provides students with:

  • Access to senior figures able to help with the preparation of assignments and dissertations;

  • Exposure to industry practices and working environments;

  • Up-to-date information and the latest thinking by industry leaders;

  • First hand experience of the industry, vital in gaining competitive advantage in securing employment.

  • The opportunity to ask questions to people working in the industry.

Last year's 2012 students:

  • Visited IPD (Investment Property Databank) - IPD is the world leader in performance analysis for the owners, investors, managers and occupiers of real estate.  Students learned about the intricate and detailed property and portfolio analysis carried out by IPD and the insights into market performance trends.  
  • Had a seminar from Savills on the key investment opportunities across the London market.  Savills plc is a global real estate services provider listed on the London Stock Exchange, with an international network of more than 500 offices and associates.
  • Heard about the varied work undertaken by Gerald Eve, who are a national firm of chartered surveyors and property consultants with a network of nine offices. This includes 90 partners and 55 associates – one of the highest partner-client ratios for the sector.  
  • Had a presentation and a Q&A session on crucial valuation and investment issues with Royal Bank of Scotland.  RBS manages a dynamic and diverse portfolio. 
  • Students were taken on a tour of Grosvenor Mayfair portfolio, learning about occupier and investor requirements Grosvenor is a specialist developer, investor and fund manager in several sectors - residential, retail, office and industrial property. 
  • Had an exclusive tour of Hotel Rafayel, one of the world’s first environmentally-conscious luxury hotels, Rafayel is set to prove that hotels can embrace cutting-edge green technologies and minimize their environmental impact without comprising on 5-star luxury.
