Visiting Scholars

Applications to join the Department as a Visiting Scholar are welcome from scholars in any field of planning or related disciplines, especially those which link to the research interests and agendas of the Department.

Visiting Scholars will be given access to workspace and related facilities within the Department. There is no financial support available, but the Department is willing to assist in applications to other funding bodies to cover the costs of travel and accommodation.

Visiting Scholars will be expected to make an academic contribution to the Department during their visit, for example by presenting their work. Visiting Scholars require a Departmental Mentor for their visit. This will usually be a member of the Department whose academic interests are similar to the applicant and with whom the applicant wishes to collaborate during the visit.

Applications are welcome at any time and should be submitted to Simon Beecroft (s.beecroft@sheffield.ac.uk). Applications should include a CV and a statement of proposed academic activities to be undertaken during the visit. The application should also clearly state the proposed Departmental Mentor, the proposed dates of the visit and provide details of how the visit will be funded. Applications should be made as far in advance of the proposed visit date as possible.

Applications will be assessed by the proposed Departmental Mentor, the Director of Research and the Head of Department and are subject to final approval by the Faculty Director of Research, with the key criteria being how the proposed visit will contribute to the academic research aims of the Department.

Visiting PhD Students

Visiting PhD students are required to pay a pro-rata fee for the period in attendance at the University.
