The University of Sheffield
Town and Regional Planning

Research activity

The results of the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) confirmed the department's standing as a leading world-class research centre. The department was ranked top amongst UK planning school's with 65% of research graded in the 4* ('world leading') and 3* ('internationally excellent') categories. 35% of the work we submitted was judged to be at 'world leading' standard.

We continue to undertake high quality research which addresses challenging research questions across a wide range of subjects within the planning discipline. Recent and ongoing research projects have, amongst others, been funded by the UK Research Councils, UK Government departments, EU funding bodies, UK charities and local government.

We aim to maintain our position as one of the world's leading planning schools. We will achieve this through a commitment to socio-spatial justice, by engaging with 'wicked problems' at local, regional, national and international scales, and by challenging the taken for granted in policy, practice and the academy.
