Women in Property - TRP Wins Again!

The Department is delighted to announce that, for the second year in succession, one of our Level 2 students has won the Regional Women in Property (WiP) award.

This prestigious competition is open to female students in the second year of a built environment course and for 2009 TRP's very own Hannah Wright is the recipient of the award. Hannah's consistently high standard of academic work, her participation in the life of the department, and her enthusiasm for all things planning-related was clear to the judges and she was announced the winner on June 11 this year. Hannah will receive a £500 cheque and a 4 week placement at Leeds City Council's urban renaissance team. TRP is delighted to count Hannah among its number and we congratulate her on this wonderful achievement.

The National Student Awards were launched to celebrate the wealth of talent, enthusiasm and ambition coming into the industry through our Universities. The 2009 Awards are well underway. Open to second year, female students studying a Built Environment course, the Awards are run in conjunction with the Construction Youth Trust. Our aspiration, as an organisation, is to recognise excellence, encourage aptitude and nurture the role models of tomorrow.

A SHEFFIELD University student has won a national accolade from an organisation encouraging women to seek careers in architecture, property and planning.

Hannah Wright, a third year urban studies undergraduate, was highly commended in the Association of Women in
Property’s National Student Awards 2009.

It is the second consecutive year that a Sheffield University student has triumphed in the awards.

Last year Marie Reaveley, also then studying urban studies and planning, won the National Student Awards’ Best of the Best title.

The Women in Property National Student Awards were launched in 2007 to celebrate the 20th birthday of the association. This year 38 universities put forward 60 of the most talented students from across the country.

Hannah also previously won the Yorkshire 2009 Women in Property Award, which included £500 and a four week placement at the Renaissance Unit in Leeds working in civic
architect John Thorp’s office.

Hannah said: “The awards have boosted my confidence and career prospects dramatically and will be encouraging other young women to get involved."
