14 February 2011 TRP part of successful ESRC Doctoral Training Centre bidTRP has played a central role in the successful proposal for a White Rose Doctoral Training Centre funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). The aim of the ESRC DTC programme is to focus and enhance doctoral training in the social sciences, with just 21 DTCs being created covering 45 institutions. In future all ESRC doctoral funding will be channelled through the DTCs. The White Rose DTC is a joint submission between the Universities of Sheffield, Leeds and Yorks and it will bring funding for 48 fully funded ESRC studentships per annum for the next five years. The White Rose DTC is one of the largest consortia in the country reflecting the strength of social science research in the three universities. TRP will coordinate the ‘Planning’ cluster that brings together Architecture, Landscape and TRP from the University of Sheffield and the Institute for Transport Studies from the University of Leeds. The DTC and the new planning cluster represent exciting opportunities to enhance our world-class doctoral training provision and open up possibilities for increased research collaboration with our colleagues in the new Planning cluster. |
