Property professionals from across Yorkshire and Humberside will hear from MPs and other high profile leaders next Friday about the effects of the recession on the region.
Barnsley East MP Jeff Ennis will be joined by Tory shadow transport minister Robert Goodwill; and Lib Dem MP Phil Willis, who chairs the Science and Technology Select Committee at the day-long conference.
It will be hosted by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors at the Marriott Hotel in Leeds and will also look at future development of the region.
Delegates will be updated on the property economy, with reports from key individuals involved in finance, policy, economics and regional regeneration projects, both in the private and public sectors.
RICS Yorkshire and Humberside chairman Colin Harrop said: “This is going to be a thought-provoking summit and I’m really looking forward to it. The recession has hit every region hard but I feel it has given Yorkshire and Humberside the opportunity to look at exactly what we want to achieve through regeneration and there are signs that this enforced down time might have helped us to refocus. So our future is bright and is going forward that we’ll be focusing upon at the summit. The conference will take a look at local projects and an in-depth look at the future plans and policies of each of the three political parties as their plans will be vital to the property economy in our region. There will also be a panel discussion, where guests can ask the high profile speakers questions and discuss any points they wish to raise. So I would advise anyone in the land, property or construction sector who wants to gain an in-depth look at the bigger picture, to secure their place at the summit quickly as places will fill up fast.”
Speakers include high profile figures from both the public and private sectors: Jan Anderson, executive director of environment at Yorkshire Forward; David Curtis, regional director, Homes & Communities Agency; Oliver Gilmartin, RICS senior economist; Chris Martin, from Local Government and Yorkshire & Humber, Sylvia Bowden, of Yorkshire Bank’s structured property finance team; Chris Brown, chief executive of Zest, a leading community development trust.
Professor Gordon Dabinett, Professor for Regional Studies and Head of Department (Town and Regional Planning) at the University of Sheffield, will discuss what the economic development environment will look like over the next 15 years.
Running from 8.30am until 5pm, the exclusive event costs £140 (plus VAT) for non-RICS members and £120 (plus VAT) for both RICS members and affiliate members. Lunch and refreshment breaks are included in the cost.
