Minister to speak at NLA National Conference

Ian Austin MP, the Government Minister is responsible for the private-rented sector, will be addressing the NLA National Conference in Birmingham later this month. The Minister will join the debate on the business of letting, the impact of the recession, Government policy and the attest industry developments.

It is hoped that the Minister will shed some light on the recent Government proposals, including the proposals in its response to the Rugg Review. These could have radical consequences for landlords up and down the country and many participants who attend the NLA’s event will want to hear whether these proposals will help shape the future of the private-rented sector or discourage greater investment.

The NLA National Conference 2009 will be held at the Holiday Inn Birmingham City on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 November. Other keynote speakers to cover policy and business topics include:

• Professor Tony Crook, Professor of Housing Studies, University of Sheffield
• Caroline Davey, Deputy Director of Policy and Campaigns, Shelter
• Ian Potter, Operations Manager, Associate of Residential Letting Agents
• Mark Long, Director, Business Development Research Consultants

The event will focus on the business of being a landlord and will cover everything from taking inventories to tax planning to managing a letting agent, rounding off with a property investment surgery. For the first time, this year’s Conference will also use interactive sessions to cover the practical side of lettings led by experts.
