What is the teachingcommons?

The teachingcommons project offers students the unique opportunity to share their ideas with university staff on how to improve learning and teaching at the University of Sheffield.

Have you ever been inspired by a lecturer or something you have done and wanted to share it? Or, have you ever been in a lecture you´ve found boring, or been frustrated by a course you've been studying?

Now is your chance to proactively help improve and modernise learning at the university in an environment where staff and students opinions are valued equally.

What is in it for me?

As well as contributing something positive to the university, people that get involved can earn themselves 30 points for their Sheffield Graduate Award.

It is also a great thing to put on your CV and will help you develop useful communication skills.

Rebecca Watson, Student Union Education Officer, talks about her experience with her personal tutor.

How can I get involved?

So now that you understand the aims of the project and can see the benefits of being involved, you just need to understand how to contribute, right?

Events – Events are run on a regular basis. They bring together students and university staff in an informal environment to share ideas on teaching and learning.

Blog - You can contribute ideas and opinions on the Good Practice Blog. Read other posts by and about students here.

YouTube channel – teachingcommons has its very own YouTube channel where both students and university staff contribute videos on anything of interest. Feel free to send us your own video or visit us at teachingcommons with an idea.
