Rolls-Royce Control & Systems University Technology Centre

The UTC in Control and Systems Engineering was established in 1993 by Rolls-Royce plc. It is situated within the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering at the University of Sheffield.

In this Research Centre we co-ordinate and direct programmes of systems and control research for Rolls-Royce and we are devoted to looking after Rolls-Royce's technical interests in the fields of control and monitoring systems and embedded software.

Research areas

The UTC carries out both short-term and long-term research with the aim of supporting the company's business aims through improving the product, improving productivity and reducing cost-of-ownership.

Rolls-Royce is an international company which has five divisions: civil aerospace, defence, energy, marine and nuclear. While we work mainly with the civil aerospace division, to date we have been involved with four of these five divisions.

Typically, the Centre supports over 20 researchers: Research Associates, Visiting Researchers, PhD researchers and Masters projects.
