Why did you choose Sheffield?

Because of the subjects available. I originally planned to head to the University of Nottingham. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

Where did you live?

Crewe Flats (basically international college) – being the only native English speaker meant a tough first month, but I reaped the rewards down the track. I ended up having both European and British friends.

Did you join any societies or clubs at Sheffield?

Rugby Union – amazing, some of the best times of my life. I am Tour Secretary for the 2007/08 season.

What did you do for fun/ at weekends?

Rugby, The Union, braved the Sheffield local life occasionally. A good healthy mix.

How does the workload/classes/teaching styles vary to back at home?

Less contact hours. Much easier to pass, however much harder to excel.

Describe Sheffield in a short paragraph

Sheffield needs more than a paragraph. It is so much more than a student town. It really is a city on the rise. More and more students are staying on after their studies. I had the opportunity to move to London, however have stayed on in Sheffield. The student life is excellent with offerings for everyone. It is a world class educational facility, with world class entertainment options surrounding it. I will eventually leave Sheffield, back for Australia (sorry the weather doesn´t quite cut it), however I would recommend Sheffield as a great life experience and to get involved.

If you could give advice to a prospective student thinking of choosing Sheffield, what would you say?

Do it. Britain is a great place to study. I reckon Univeristy of Sheffield is the best. So much to get involved with and an enjoyable experience.

Could you give any advice or tips to a student preparing to come to Sheffield or tell them anything you wished you knew in advance.

Its always going to be different what you imagined. But different doesn´t necessarily mean worse. Put yourself out there and experience it. Then you will reap the full rewards of you experience.
