Why did you choose Sheffield?
Because it was advertised as one of the safest cities in England as well as one of the least expensive. Also when Comparing it to Swansea and Edinburgh (my other options) I just thought it seemed more friendly and appealing.
Where did you live?
I lived in Endcliffe Vale Flats, which was an amazing experience. The flats are laid out in such a way that it is really easy to meet people and be social.
Did you join any societies or clubs at Sheffield?
I joined the Phat `eds Ultimate Frisbee team which accounted for about half of my friends in Sheffield as well as meeting my competitive expectations.
What did you do for fun/ at weekends?
Clubs, Bars, "give it a go" trips around England, Played Frisbee, Hiked and climbed.
How does the workload/classes/teaching styles vary to back at home?
The workload at Sheffield was so much lighter than being home that I felt like I was on vacation most of the term. Classes were much different because we only met once a week in many cases but the teaching styles were very similar.
Describe Sheffield in a short paragraph
Sheffield is my home away from home as corny as that may sound. I now know so many people living and working there that I can´ completely separate my mind from it. Sometimes I get a bit depressed thinking that I wont be seeing Sheffield or many of my friends again for about a year. I love New Mexico and while in Sheffield I couldn´t help but think of things about NM that I liked better but now that I´m home I can´t help but enumerate the things that I like more about Sheffield. I feel like I´m part English and part American.
If you could give advice to a prospective student thinking of choosing Sheffield, what would you say?
Do it. No matter where you go if you are active, out going and get along well with people you´ll love it but Sheffield has so much more to offer with regards to England. You can walk to the peak district, the bus system is efficient and inexpensive compared to other places and the average person in a shop ends a conversation with "have a nice day luv" you can´t help but get a good feeling from that!
Could you give any advice or tips to a student preparing to come to Sheffield or tell them anything you wished you knew in advance.
Be outgoing is the number one thing. Apart from that do not let your preconceptions govern you. In the U.S.A. I hate going to clubs because of the atmosphere but I loved it in the U.K. I suppose the last thing would be to get involved with something. I got involved with Frisbee and it was the best thing I did, but any kind of club that you are interested in, you should become active it. It´s a great way to meet people, learn more about the culture, and have a great time.
Any other information or comment
I can´t wait to come back to Sheffield!!!!!!
