Why did you choose Sheffield?
It had my course and because I had heard really great things about this uni. It was also in the UK where I could speak English, however I could also travel really easily for good prices, sometimes only 3 pounds!
Where did you live?
Stephenson Halls, which was awesome, the food was catered and there were always plenty of options and I met loads of English people as there weren´t just internationals there.
Did you join any societies or clubs at Sheffield?
Yeah, I joined the Swimming and waterpolo society and got to go on tour to Salou in Spain for it and play regular matches. I was also involved in the performing arts societies, Sutco and SUPAS where I was able to do two musicals. Sheffield has an amazing Students society and I would definitely recommend getting involved in something whilst your here, as it is the best way to experience uni and meet people.
What did you do for fun/ at weekends?
Generally hung out, sometimes went to London with friends to watch a musical or see the rugby. Other times, friends would invite me back to their houses for the night.
Which department(s) did you study in?
Journalism, which was amazing. It had really great lecturers and the support and equipment behind the department was incredible.
How does the workload/classes/teaching styles vary to back at home?
Very similar, you tend to do 3 or 4 classes and around the same hours as back in UOW. Tutorials and lectures still apply and the teaching style and humour is very similar. I had a bit more work to do because I was doing 3rd year classes, however it was all very interesting so you don´t really feel the pressure.
Describe Sheffield in a short paragraph
A student, party town with a great social network. It is ten minutes away from the beautiful countryside and has the old English buildings in the city centre. The university is spread out in a gorgeous area with parks and cafe´s all around. Everyone is friendly and everyone is there to have a good time.
If you could give advice to a prospective student thinking of choosing Sheffield, what would you say?
Go to Sheffield! You won´t regret it!
Could you give any advice or tips to a student preparing to come to Sheffield or tell them anything you wished you knew in advance.
Say yes to every opportunity that comes your way whilst your here and you will not regret anything.
Any other information or comment
Bring a warm coat and an umbrella; of course the English weather will prevail!
