Website support for CMS users

The University has selected to use a content management system provided by the company Polopoly.

What is a CMS?

A content management system (CMS) is a tool used to manage and publish content on a website. The author uses a web browser to access the system and input their content using pre-defined templates.

Why do we have a CMS?

  • More people can get involved with publishing so workload can be shared. CMS doesn't require any technical web skills.

  • A consistent look and feel is maintained across the whole University website. If any style changes are introduced they can be done automatically, site-wide, by CICS without any extra work for you.

  • The consistency makes for easier navigation across the University website. For example: consider the benefits to students considering dual degrees and trying to find information on two different departments' websites.

  • Training and support in one system, rather than many systems.

  • The CMS is supported centrally by CiCS and the Web Marketing team so it benefits from research done centrally into best practice in website usability.

  • All sites within the CMS will conform to the legal requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.

  • The CMS allows web pages to be updated to a new version or restored to a previous version, and tracks changes made to pages by individuals.

Start using the CMS

Before gaining access to the University website you will need to attend a half day training course.
