Personal Problems
At some point during your time at University you may experience personal problems that seem too much for you to be able to cope with alone. You may want to talk to someone about what is happening, find out facts or talk to others experiencing the same problems. Are you or do you think that you might be experiencing any of the following problems: anxiety, stress, difficult events, isolation, strong negative feelings, self image problems, sexual orientation crises, etc. ? We want you to do as well as you can at University and to feel supported. Many students have found the follwing useful contacts helpful:
- The Counselling Service
- The Multi-Faith Chaplaincy Service
- Student Advice Centre
- Nightline (Listening Service)
Additional Support Needs (medical/disability etc.)
Discuss with a doctor at the University Health Service or your own GP. However difficult this may be for you, your academic department does need to be aware (in confidence) of any personal or medical problems, particularly during examinations.
Talk through possible options with your personal tutor (perhaps a Leave of Absence or other special arrangements may be appropriate)
In addition, your Faculty contact in the Taught Programmes Office or Graduate Research Office may be able to help.
