Visa Extension Scheme
Extending Leave To Remain through the University's Visa Extension Scheme)
The University is able to help students who need to extend their Leave to Remain by sending batches of applications to a special section of the UK Border Agency (UKBA). Such applications (if straightforward, complete and dealt with by this section) are currently returned within 12-16 weeks. (Please note: we cannot guarantee that UKBA will agree to process all applications in this way.)
The charge for postal applications is £406 for the main applicant and £305 for each dependant.
If you apply in person you will be charged £781 plus £680 for each dependant.
It is important that you know more about this and the new Points Based System
Who is the scheme for?
1. Registered students (subject to availability), who have a valid visa for the University of Sheffield. Students whose visas have expired, cannot use the visa extension scheme and must either go to a UKBA Public Enquiry Office to obtain a new visa or return to their home country and obtain fresh entry clearance.
2. Recent graduates who are applying to extend leave until no later than 4 months (maximum) after the end of a course. (Those wishing to extend for longer, please seek advice from the Student Advice Centre, tel: 222 8660.)
3. Students who need to extend Leave to Remain to attend re-sit examinations.
4. Offer-holders e.g. Current Undergraduates with the offer of a Postgraduate place, students at the English Language Teaching Centre or students currently at another institution in the UK.
5. Dependants of the above if their Leave to Remain expires at the same time as student.
