Who We Are

The University of Sheffield Student Services Information Desk (known as SSiD) is an important point of contact before, during and after your time at the University. SSiD handles over 300,000 enquiries from past, present and future students each year.
SSiD's friendly staff are trained to deal with a wide range of enquiries and the office is a key central point for general information on many University services.
One Stop Shop
We are a "one-stop shop" which aims to answer the majority of student related enquiries from a single location. And if we can´t answer your question, we can direct you to someone who can.
Before SSiD many of the services we now offer were provided by offices in different part of the University. Students would have to go from office to office trying to find an answer to their question. When analysed, it was found that 84% of enquiries were answered by front line staff such as receptionists. Therefore the idea having all these enquiry staff located in one place, answering the vast majority of student related enquiries, made sense.
Serving students and their supporters since 1997
The Student Services Information Desk (SSiD) opened its doors to students for the first time in March 1997. In the first year there were 33,000 enquiries. Last year, there were over 300,000. That’s about 25,000 enquiries answered by each member of frontline staff.
In student surveys SSiD regularly show an exceptional student satisfaction rating of above 94% - consistently one of the highest rated of any University service. Furthermore in benchmarking surveys SSiD is regularly ranked 1st against other comparable Russell Group services.
