Regulations

One of my personal tutees has a problem with her course and asks whether I can advise on an appropriate course of action. It is a rather complicated case and while I am sympathetic about the student's predicament, I am not sure whether what she wants to do is permissable. What should I advise?

If you are unsure it is always best to tell the student that you will check, rather than giving a possibly incorrect answer which may cause difficulties later. Within the department/school, you may be able to seek advice from a member of staff with responsibility for the relevant student cohort (such as the Head of Level 1, or equivalent, depending on the department). You are also always welcome to raise the query with the appropriate Faculty contact in the Taught Programmes Office. These staff are familiar with the University's regulations and are well placed to provide guidance which will take into account any agreed Faculty practice. If you are interested in finding out more about the University's Regulations relating to taught degree programmes, you may wish to consult the text in the Student Handbook or via the Calendar website. A user-friendly set of staff notes on the Regulations is also available from the Taught Programmes Office.
