Pentecostal Churches/Assemblies of God
Pentecostal Churches believe in the possibility of receiving the same experience and gifts as did the first Christians `on the day of Pentecost´ (Acts 1.1-4). Their worship is characterized by enormous freedom, spontaneity and special stress on the practice of the gifts listed in 1 Corinthians and recorded in the Acts of the Apostles (e.g. speaking in tongues, prophecy, healing and exorcism.) Modern Pentecostalism emerged in North America in the early years of the twentieth century from among various inter-denominational revivalist groups. Since that time, the movement has expanded dramatically in Europe, Indonesia, Africa and Latin America.
Assemblies of God represent a particular denomination within the Pentecostal movement. Assemblies of God is a classical Pentecostal fellowship of evangelical churches which place a distinct emphasis on the need for the Holy Spirit's empowerment in their worship, work and witness.
