The University of Sheffield Sociology Society (SocSoc) is run by fellow Sociology students to enable you to feel comfortable in your new department and meet lots of like minded people! We’re dedicated to providing a friendly, social and informative service to support you during your time at Sheffield.

Being a SocSoc member not only gets you involved in the society but enables you to take part in our activities at a cheaper price, gives you discounts at various popular bars & ensures discounts on our lovely SocSoc merchandise!Photo of Soc Soc Committee 2012-13

Membership costs just £20 and is valid for your full 3 years at uni! SocSoc will have a stand at the Activities Fair on Thursday 20th September 2012, 10-3pm, Octagon Centre. What Does SocSoc Offer?

Academic Help

To support you throughout your studies our Academic Rep organizes extra-curricular support and help for first and second year students. We are hoping to run revision sessions during exam time and group sessions with lecturers to help them explain anything you may be struggling with.

Socials & Events

SocSoc is a very social society and holds a variety activities & events throughout the year. We enjoy organising activities that cater for everybody such as themed nights out, bar crawls, pub quizzes, day trips, cocktail making sessions, movie nights, educational talks, book sales & more! We also hold annual events that are not to be missed such as the free staff-student Christmas drinks and the end of year ball. Look out for our Book Sale in October, Elmfield Building, & buy bargain course books!

Also, don’t miss out on our first social of the year on Monday 24 September. For more details please see our facebook Socials & Events pages.

Chartity & Volunteering

Do you want to get involved in something fulfilling whilst studying? Interested in charity work or volunteering to help boost your CV? Our charities & volunteering team is committed to organising fundraising events for worthwhile causes. SocSoc raised hundreds of pounds for Sheffield based charity Village Aid last year and hope to do the same for a local charity this year with more amazing charity events.

Look out for our Charity & Volunteering Secs throughout Freshers week!

Sports & Activities

SocSoc loves to get involved in sports and has been running football and netball teams for years!

Joining our football and/or netball teams is a great way to meet new friends and keep fit. Teams meet once a week for leisurely games and training, which you can do at your own pace! We also get involved in inter-departmental competitions throughout the year—perfect for the more competitive sociologist!
