Who should take this course?

The MA in Social Research is aimed at individuals interested in the study of social life and social relations and provides an opportunity to combine the study of research design and methods alongside analyses of contemporary debates in sociology, social policy and social anthropology. It provides all of the training necessary to carry out doctoral research in line with current ESRC Guidelines.

Course outline

The course is built around three complementary strands:

It culminates in a dissertation project on a topic of individual choice.

Aims and outcomes

The twin aims of the MA are to engage students in advanced level debates in contemporary sociological research and the wider social sciences, and to provide advanced training in social science research methods with an emphasis on their application to sociological research.
