Sociology in Practice initiative

Sociology in Practice (SiP) is a brand new initiative funded by the University Alumni and run by Care-Connect in conjunction with the Department of Sociological Studies. It provides a limited number of research placement opportunities for level 3 undergraduate students. The students carry out research for a half to a full day a week for 10 weeks within an external organisation of their choice on a project that directly links to their dissertation. They will receive £300 to cover their travel and printing expenses. They will work closely with their dissertation supervisor who will help guide them in both their dissertation and their placement. At the end of their 10-week placement they will provide a short report detailing the work that they have done. This report can be included as evidence in their dissertation.

How can SiP help you as the employer?

The placement student will allow you to complete a piece of research, evidence the outcomes of your services and activities, or compile data that you may not have been able to due to a variety of other commitments.

In addition it gives you access to the wider Care-Connect network, which not only has extensive links within the University of Sheffield but also with over 1600 organisations both nationally and internationally.
