In what follows, committees are distinguished from teams. Committees meet a specified number of times a year and on specified dates, in order that they can report to Departmental Committee. Committee meetings are formally minuted, and the minutes are public. The regularity with which teams will meet will, however, vary with the team and its needs, although meetings are likely to be more frequent and shorter than committee meetings. Team meetings are unlikely to be formally minuted (although some record should be kept by co-ordinators, in order to facilitate reporting back to the relevant committee). Much communication between teams can take place electronically.

| Responsibilities: presentation of student comments and feedback on courses, modules, resources and other matters. Reports to Teaching Committee. Staff-Student Committee meets twice a semester. Membership comprises two representatives from each year of each taught programme and two postgraduate research students. It is an opportunity for student representatives to have a direct input into the work of the department and to meet to discuss issues of common interest with colleagues from other courses. The committee is chaired by the Gillian Brown, Departmental Administrator, and attended by the Director of Learning and Teaching, Kevin Farnsworth. Meetings are held at on Wednesdays at lunchtime, 1.00pm to 2.30pm (Room 1.55, Elmfield), to allow a wider attendance and a sandwich lunch is served. Meetings dates during 2011-2012 are: Semester 1: 19 October and 23 November 2011 Semester 2: 22 February and 2 May 2012 Representatives will be chosen during induction meetings or at lectures during the first two weeks of the academic year.
