Studying Health and Human Sciences at Sheffield

We'll help you become a confident, caring professional so you're ready for a wide range of career paths in health.

You'll join one of the top schools in the UK for nursing research. The internationally acclaimed research we're doing improves lives and helps shape health care policy and practice. All of these insights feed into your course so you graduate with the most relevant knowledge and skills.

All the support you need

We put our all into making this the best learning experience for you. You'll be taught by a friendly team of experts who are passionate about what they do. And because student numbers on our BMedSci are relatively small, it means we can give you the right level of individual support. We'll help you discover what areas interest you most, and motivate you to be the best you can be.

Our caring approach to learning shows – in a recent survey an impressive 94 per cent of our students said they were happy with their course, along with the enthusiasm of staff and the quality of their feedback (Oxford Research Agency Student Satisfaction Survey 2011).

The BMedSci in Health and Human Sciences is a three-year, full-time degree. You'll get to grips with a wide range of disciplines, from biomedicine and ethics to health care management and policy.

Professional experience

In your third year you can do a work placement in a health services environment of your choice. You'll be supported throughout by a host mentor and a dedicated placement officer.

Our students tell us this is one of the stand-out experiences of their time here. It gives you hands-on experience of the professional world so it's a great way to impress future employers. It's also a chance to learn more about yourself and your career interests.

Study here and you'll join a welcoming and enthusiastic student community.

The Nursing and Health Society, run entirely by students, organises revision sessions, peer-to-peer support and lots of events to keep your social calendar busy. If you decide to take part in our mentoring scheme, undergraduates from years two and three of your course will help you settle in.

The BMedSci attracts students of different ages from a variety of backgrounds, so you'll be part of a vibrant and exciting team of people. Your wider community will be pretty special, too. We've been named University of the Year in the 2011 Times Higher Education Awards. And the 2011 Times Higher survey says we're the university most people would recommend to a friend.
