Biography
I joined the University of Sheffield in 2008 and my major research interests are in palliative and end of life care. I have been involved in a number of successful research projects which have resulted in several publications, conference presentations, and further successful funding applications. I am currently involved in a number of research studies with collaborations across the University and externally. I participate in departmental teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Research Interests
My research interests are palliative and end of life care, palliative care for older people, palliative care for non-cancer conditions, the impact of physical environment on end of life care, qualitative studies, census methods and multivariate statistics.
Professional activities
I am a member of the Palliative Care Research Society. I have been an invited speaker at academic and health-related conferences and events. I am a peer reviewer for health-related journals. I chair a regional User Representatives in Palliative Care Research Group.

- Factors supporting good partnership working between specialist and generalist palliative care services (with Gott M, Ingleton C)
- Transitions to palliative care for older people in acute hospitals (with Gott M, Ingleton C, Seymour J, Noble B, Bennett M, Cobb M)
- Improving hospital environments for the end of life care of older people dying of malignant disease (with Gott M, Ingleton C, Barnes S)
- A pilot study to develop an appropriate methodology to examine the effect of the Shipman murders on opiate prescribing within cancer palliative care (with Gott M, Ingleton C, Hughes P)
- Pre-protocol work to develop a Randomised Controlled Trial to enhance patient-professional communication about end of life issues in life limiting conditions other than cancer (with Barnes S, Gott M, Payne S, Small N, Seamark D, Halpin D)
