Glossary of Terms
CLINICAL LINK LECTURER
Liaise with the Learning Environment Manager in monitoring the quality of clinical placements using educational audit. Advise staff and students on educational matters.
CLINICAL PLACEMENT
Gives the student opportunities for practical experience to gain the required competency to practise as a health care professional.
DESIGNATED SUPPORT STAFF
Nominated individuals within the clinical area who are responsible for strategic and operational support of students on placement.
EDUCATIONAL AUDIT
Involves monitoring, measuring and evaluating the clinical placement.
LEARNING ENVIRONMENT MANAGER
Nurse responsible for the quality of the learning environment and liaison with the Clinical Link Lecturer.
MENTOR
An appropriately qualified and experienced first level nurse, midwife or health visitor who facilitates learning, supervises and assesses students within the clinical setting.
PERSONAL TUTOR
A lecturer who provides academic and pastoral support throughout the course of study. He/she will document the student's progress in theory and practice to provide written summaries as required and will provide the end of programme reference.

A profile of the placement organisation which outlines the types of placement, and the support and opportunities available.
