MA in Japanese Studies (Full-Time, 12 months)
The MA Japanese Studies offers a flexible range of units in the social sciences that may be combined with rigorous language tuition at a range of levels.
Students may choose from units on the international relations of Japan, public communications and business and work cultures. These will address such questions as:
- What are the implications of globalisation for the Japanese media?
- How have international crises such as the events of 9/11 changed Japan’s relations with other powers and organisations such as the UN?
- Is Japan's rising public debt threatening its position as a major player in the world economy?
Other options include modules on economic development and business in the wider East Asian context, and – for non-native speakers of Japanese – language modules.
The language programme offers a range of entry points and offers rigorous and intensive skills development for students at beginners´, intermediate and upper-intermediate levels. Intermediate and upper-intermediate options include newspaper Japanese and the classical language.
Diploma (9 months) and Certificate (4 months) options are also available for this programme – please contact us for further details.
