MA in Advanced Japanese Studies (Full-Time, 12 months)

The MA Advanced Japanese Studies is an ESRC-recognised programme offering a flexible range of units in the social sciences combined with advanced, applied language study.

All students take intensive units in advanced Japanese language and approaches to text reading in the social sciences, and may choose from units on the modern history, society, business environment and international relations of Japan. These will address such questions as:

  • What are the implications of globalisation for the Japanese state?
  • How have women contributed to Japan’s economic development?
  • Why is ‘public memory’ important to our understanding of Japan today?
