As Academic Director of the distance-learning Japanese programmes, Graham is responsible for ensuring the academic content of the materials and maintaining the academic standards achieved by the students. He is the writer of the modules Japanese to English Translation I and II and Japanese the Written Language I and II, as well as co-writer of Specialised Texts II: Japanese Patent Translation. Graham Healey studied Chinese at Oxford before going to Waseda University in 1964 to study Japanese language and literature. He has taught Japanese language, modern Japanese history and politics at the University of Sheffield since 1966, and has been a visiting lecturer or research fellow at Hosei, Waseda, Kyoto and Hitotsubashi Universities. He is the translator of two volumes, and joint editor-in-chief of all five volumes, of The Iwakura Embassy, 1872-73, published in January 2002. This work has been awarded the Japan Society of Translators Prize for the best translation of 2001-2002.
