ESRC Future Research Leaders Scheme (FRLs) 2012-13

ESRC Future Research Leaders funds the 4* researchers of the future to undertake to carry out excellent research projects and to develop all aspects of their research and knowledge exchange skills. Although the call for 2012-13 has not yet been announced, we are keen to talk to potential applicants from anywhere in the world who are within 4 years of submitting their doctoral thesis. Details of key dates and deadlines will be posted here shortly.

ERC Starting Grants 2013

ERC Starting Grants are aimed at researchers of any nationality with 2-7 years of experience since completion of PhD (or equivalent degree) and scientific track record showing great promise. They aim to support up-and-coming research leaders who are about to establish a proper research team and to start conducting independent research in Europe. The scheme targets promising researchers who have the proven potential of becoming independent research leaders. It will support the creation of excellent new research teams. Any prospective applicants should contact us as soon as possible to discuss an application, and note that an internal university deadline of 10 September 2012 is in place for draft applications.

Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship Competition (ECFs) 2013

Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowships (ECFs) aim to provide career development opportunities for those who are at a relatively early stage of their academic careers (within 5 years of PhD, and not yet holding full academic post) but with a proven record of research. To this end, the Leverhulme Trust contributes 50% of each Fellow's total salary costs up to a maximum of £23,000 per annum and the balance is to be paid by the host institution. The awards are tenable for three years on a full-time basis. The deadline for applications is likely to be in early March 2013. FP7: Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowships for Career Development (IEFs) 2012

Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowships (IEFs) support the career development of researchers at different stages of their careers by funding a period of research at an overseas research institution. The awards are 12-24 months in duration and eligible researchers must: (i) hold a PhD or have four years postgraduate research experience; (ii) be citizens of an EU member State (or Associated State) other then the UK; and (iii) must not have worked full-time at a UK Higher Education Institution in the past three years (temporary periods of employment, such as research visits, amounting to no more than 12 months are however acceptable under the IEF rules). Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowships (IIFs) support the career development of researchers at different stages of their careers by funding a period of research at an overseas research institution. The awards are 12-24 months in duration and eligible researchers must: (i) hold a PhD or have four years postgraduate research experience; (ii) be moving from a ‘third’ country (outside of the EU and Associated Countries); and (iii) must not have worked full-time at a UK Higher Education Institution in the past three years (temporary periods of employment, such as research visits, amounting to no more than 12 months are however acceptable under the IIF rules). British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships (PDFs) 2011-12

The British Academy’s PDF scheme funds outstanding early career researcher research projects to strengthen their experience of research and teaching in a university environment and to improve their prospects of obtaining permanent lecturing posts at the end of the project. Applicants must be within 3 years of the award of their doctorate. The deadline for outline applications to the 2012-13 scheme will be in October 2012. Prospective applicants to this scheme should contact us before 7 September 2012 to ensure that they are considered for institutional support.
