The Netherlands	MDB	On going research has been investigating the sand-sheets and dunefields of former periglacial deserts in The Netherlands and their ongoing impact in terms of landscape instability.
France	JW	A number of projects looking at Geoarchaeology and landform evolution in SW France (Leverhulme funded), occurrence and impacts of extreme storm events (previously NERC funded) and hillslope-channel coupling (previously NERC funded).
	MC, GJ, PH	MC, GJ, PH Investigations have been looking at traditional dryland and irrigated crop regimes.
Spain	MDB	Past research has shown inland sand-sheets and dunes in central Spain around Segovia to have been active around 7,000 years ago when the climate was thought to be warmer and more arid. They were most active however between 12,000-11,000 years ago when the climate was much cooler but also arid. Project funded by BGRG.
	JW	Research has been looking at the impacts of land-use change on fire regimes.
	PH	Investigations have been looking at ways in which traditional arable and pastoral regimes impact on landscape.
Greece	PH, MC, GJ	Investigations have been looking at traditional dryland crops and pastoral regimes.

Sardinia	MDB	Collaborative project looking at aeolianites and their association with African dust, sea-leve and climate changes.
Turkey	MC	Catal Huyuk – Neolithic, modern plant work.
Syria	MC	Tell Borak, modern plant work.
Jordan	MDB	Investigations in Jordanian highlands demonstrated that this area once (100,000 years+) had extensive and active wadi systems.
	MC	Bronze age – Islamic, modern plant work.
Iran	MDB	During the last glacial maximum environmental conditions were sufficiently arid for extensive sand ramps to accumulate in the Yadt province of Iran.

Saudi Arabia	MDB	Collaborative project looking at fluvial and dune systems in the central Arabian peninsula and how they have responded to past climatic shifts.
Turkmenistan	MC	Jeiten- Neolithic.
Siberia	MDB	Collaborative project looking at loess sequences preserved in permafrost.
Tunisia	RGB	Long-term research into the association of playas and dust.
India	MDB	Collaborative work with colleagues in India looking at the past flood responses of dryland rivers.
USA	JW	Long-term ecological research looking at biogeochemical fluxes as driving mechanisms for land degradation. NSF funded project.
	MDB	In Florida research is on-going looking at how bioturbation (disturbance by flora and fauna) affects the integrity of archaeological deposits and sedimentary records used for past environmental reconstructions.
	MDB	Ongoing research, funded through a NERC studentship and consultancy work, looking at landscape dynamics over the last 25,000 years in the sand mantles of East Central Texas.

	DS	ESRC funded research project on Population Ageing and Sustainable Livelihoods in regions affected by HIV/AIDS focused on Omusati region. This research is being undertaken in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Namibia.
	DS	Post-graduate research by Felicity Thomas explored the impacts of HIV/AIDS and chronic illness on livelihoods, vulnerability and social support networks in the Caprivi Region.
	DS, CT	Public policy impacts on sustainable natural resource use and poverty in cross-border dryland regions funded by DfID see PANRUSA.
	CT, JW	Helen Brown’s PhD research investigated social learning and adaptive water resource management in South Africa and Namibia.

Botswana	RGB	Research investigating Southern Hemisphere dust sources.
	DS	Public policy impacts on sustainable natural resource use and poverty in cross-border dryland regions funded by DfID. This research was based in 3 areas, SE Botswana, SW Botswana and the Ghanzi District.
	MDB	The Kalahari desert has expanded and contracted in response to past climate changes. Work in this region, using dunes, has tried to establish this response which has proven to be more omplex than initially thought with sub-regional responses.
	DS	Past ESRC funded research with Prof David Thomas (Oxford) has investigated the dynamics of social and environmental change in Kalahari pastoral systems.
	DS, CT	Public policy impacts on sustainable natural resource use and poverty in cross-border dryland regions funded by DfID see PANRUSA. This research was based in 3 areas, SE Botswana, SW Botswana and the Ghanzi District.
	DS	Ongoing Ph.D. studentship supervision on Social support networks for people living with AIDS and the MESA ARV Programme.
Gabon	MDB	Collaboration looking at the replacement of Tropical Rainforest during the Last Glacial Maximum with deserts and savannah.
South Africa	KK	Research in the Makapansgat Valley aims to refine habitat and ecological reconstructions of early hominids that lived during the past 3 million years.
	MDB	Ongoing research, initially funded by the Leverhulme Trust, is investigating the dune systems and land-ocean sediment interactions of the Southern Cape coast from which it is thought modern humans emerged.
