Faculty of Social Sciences Taster Days

Departments in the Faculty are offering taster days to local schools and colleges, highlighting the wonderful opportunities that studying Social Science subjects at the University of Sheffield can bring.

The Faculty of Social Sciences is a large and diverse group of thirteen departments, including 'classical' social science departments, but also several other major subject areas, some of which are distinctive to Sheffield.

Through the Faculties Outreach Team the taster days will also include general informtion about applying to the University, student finance, the chance to talk to current students about their experiences, and a guided tour of the campus.

Social Sciences Residential Year 11 Summer School - 15th to 17th July 2013


The days are FREE to attend, and we would encourage schools/colleges to put forward students with no immediate family experience of higher education, as well as those from groups currently under represented in higher education. We also invite applications from pupils who are currently ‘Looked After’ by the local authority and children who have a declared disability. 


We can help with the cost and arrangements for transport if you have a group of pupils wanting to attend, and refund individual public transport costs of pupils making their own way here.  Letters and application forms for all the taster days will be sent out to all ‘City Region’ schools and colleges and places are limited so please apply as soon as possible.
