The Compact Scheme

The Compact Scheme aims to create a close working relationship between schools and colleges and the University of Sheffield, working together to help their students identify the Higher Education opportunities that are available to them.

The scheme aims to encourage all students of academic ability, including those who might not ordinarily do so, to consider Higher Education as an option.

Higher Education Guidance Programmes

Participating schools and colleges are actively encouraged to use our resources within their own Higher Education Guidance Programmes.

Recommending Individual Applicants for the Scheme

The Compact Scheme also offers support to individual applicants whose schools/colleges identify them as deserving special consideration, if they are interested in applying for a course at the University of Sheffield.

Such applicants are expected to have fully researched their Higher Education options and should demonstrate the motivation and ability that are necessary to succeed on their chosen course.

Compact Agreement with the Footballers Further Education & Vocational Training Society

The University also has a Compact Agreement with the Footballers' Further Education and Vocational Training Society which offers special consideration to Football Scholars, the majority of whom achieved 5+ A-C grades at GCSE and are studying 3 A levels or the equivalent, whilst training full time with their clubs.

Note: It should be stressed that the aim of the Compact Scheme is not to admit lower quality students to the University, and that Compact students are not guaranteed the offer of a place. What they are guaranteed is that Admissions Tutors will give special consideration to their applications and that their individual circumstances will be taken into account.
