Biography

I studied Catering and Applied Nutrition as an undergraduate, and then focused on Human Nutrition as a MMedSci student. My PhD in nutrition and the skeletal development of premature infants was undertaken in the University of Sheffield Medical School (Dept of Human Metabolism and Clinical Biochemistry) and I graduated in 2000. Following a post-doc period during which I studied the long term skeletal consequences of premature birth I moved to Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 2004, where my role is to facilitate research in the Trust and increase research capacity. As part of this role I joined ScHARR as Hon Research Fellow.

I currently work across 3 main roles

  1. Theme Manager for the CLAHRC Obesity Theme
  2. Research Fellow based in Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
  3. Research Fellow in the CLAHRC Core Team (I contribute to the Internal Evaluation Work)

My research interests are obesity, particularly in the context of NHS service provision, applied research (and its implementation) in Primary and Secondary Care and the evaluation of complex programmes.

Current projects

Teaching

I contribute to the Masters in Public Health and the MBChB curricula and supervise PhD and Masters candidates. In addition I have responsibility for the delivery of the CLAHRC-SY Research Skills workshops.
