Biography

I started my working life as a Cashier for the Leeds Permanent Building Society. I then joined the South Yorkshire Police as a Clerk/Typist, latterly carrying out administrative duties in the newly formed Corporate Development Department.

My first role in the University of Sheffield was as Personal Secretary to the Director of Undergraduate Admissions before moving into the role of Personnel Assistant in the Department of Human Resources.

In July 1998 I started working in ScHARR as both the Section Administrator and Personal Assistant to the Director of the Section of Public Health.

Current Activities

My main duties are:-

Providing secretarial and administrative support to the Director of the Section
Managing all departmental and administrative functions & contributing to the strategic planning of the Section
Developing, implementing and maintaining administrative processes and procedures within the Section
Participating in and servicing key departmental meetings and Away Days
Co-ordinating human resource activities within the Section, including: recruitment, induction, SRDS/appraisals, sickness absence and fixed termn contract monitoring
Raising requisitions using the University UBase Financial System and checking expense forms
Monitoring, planning and control of the Section budget and assisting the Section Director on budget forecasting
Maintaining, editing and updating the Section website
Managing the admin team within the Section, including recruitment, training and appraisal processes
Responsible for maintaining section records and databases
Acting as the Health and Safety Rep for the Section of Public Health
Representing the Section on the ScHARR Facilities Committee, the ScHARR Marketing Committee, the ScHARR Senior Administrators Group and the ScHARR Promotions and ECA Panels
