Biography
I qualified in Medicine from the University of Veracruz in Mexico in 1992 and got certified as Childbirth Educator by Lamaze and Anahuac University in Mexico in 1996. In 1998 I started to work for the Mexican National Health Services in Veracruz in the Public Health Department as Reproductive Health Coordinator and Supervisor. I completed my Master in Public Health and Epidemiology at the University of Veracruz, Mexico in 2003. In 2002, before finishing my Masters, I began to practice as Epidemiologist in a Public Health Hospital in Veracruz and continued to be involved in Reproductive Health Programmes, mainly Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative promoting breastfeeding and mother-infant health care.
I began my PhD in Public Health at the University of Sheffield in October 2007.
Research Interests
I am interested in research in the field of Reproductive Health, particularly the health and wellbeing of childbearing women, in pregnancy, labour and postpartum.
Current projects
- My PhD project aims to investigate maternal substance misuse after childbirth and to explore the relationship between maternal substance misuse and postpartum changes in motherhood.
