Biography

I joined ScHARR in 2009 as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and PhD student in Public Health.

Research Interests

- Health inequalities
- The health and wellbeing of children, families and young people

These research interests directly inform my PhD. I am also working with the ScHARR Public Health Collaborating Centre team to produce a review on the wellbeing of vulnerable children for the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).

I am a member of the following interdisciplinary research groups at the university:
- Social and Health Research Group (SHRG)
- Centre for Health and Wellbeing in Public Policy (CWiPP)
- Centre for the Study of Childhood and Youth (CSCY)

I recently participated in the CWiPP and Office for National Statistics (ONS) consultation event regarding proposals for measuring national wellbeing.

Teaching Interests

I enjoy teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. I am currently involved with teaching on the following modules on the Masters in Public Health at ScHARR:

I also co-lead an ILA Masterclass in Health Inequalities and teach critical appraisal skills on the undergraduate MB ChB course.

Current projects/PhD Thesis

Title: The relationship between food and health: perspectives of children from socio-economically contrasting communities.

The study aims to explore:

  1. Children's understanding of the relationship between food and health
  2. Children's experience and perceptions of food in their daily lives
