Research into pre-hospital care
Research into pre-hospital care, including land and helicopter ambulance and paramedic services has been ongoing in ScHARR since the early 1990s.
Current research includes:
- Cost and effectiveness of the implementation of new ambulance response time standards
- A randomised controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness of community Paramedic Practitioners managing older people calling 999 with minor conditions
Further information about the PP evaluation
- National evaluation of Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP) Schemes
Further information about the ECP evaluation
- The costs and effectiveness of managing low priority 999 ambulance calls by NHS Direct nurse advisors. See SDO full report and research summary.
The NHS Office of Strategic Health Authorities (OSHA) has produced a series of reports following an Emergency Services Review. Members of the Emergency & Immediate care team conducted a comparative review of international ambulance service best practice. The report can be accessed from the download list.
