A wide variety of research projects involving emergency departments and emergency care are currently ongoing.
Current research includes:
- The AHEAD Study: monitoring anticoagulated patients who suffer head injury
- The 3Mg Trial: A randomised trial of intravenous or nebulised magnesium sulphate versus placebo for acute severe asthma
- The RATPAC trial (Randomised Assessment of Treatment using Panel Assay of Cardiac markers) - a trial of rapid blood testing for acute chest pain
- Development and validation of risk-adjusted outcomes for systems of emergency care (Davros Study)
- The cost-effectiveness of investigation and hospital admission for minor head injury
- A national evaluation of foundation year 2 doctors in the emergency department

- 3CPO Study: a randomised controlled trial of continuous positive airways pressure (CPAP) versus and non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) versus standard therapy for acute cardiogenic pulmonary oedema (ACPO).
