Getting research into practice

7. Organisations involved in getting research into practice

There are many organisations involved in getting research findings into practice. It will be sufficient to identify two of the main players in this area:

  1. the Cochrane Collaboration Collaborative Review Group on Effective Practice and Organisation and Delivery of Care (EPOC). This international network has already produced major systematic reviews covering some of the interventions discussed above. The findings of these have been referred to above where available but readers should be aware that a number of pertinent reviews are at the protocol stage and will therefore become available in the next couple of years.
  2. NHS Centre for Reviews and Dissemination, York, United Kingdom. This Centre has conducted several systematic reviews into getting research into practice. An early offering was an Effective Health Care Bulletin on Implementing Clinical Guidelines. More recently they have produced an Effective Health Care Bulletin entitled Getting Research Into Practice. They have also researched the effect of providing "Informed Choice" leaflets to patients in topics relating to Pregnancy and Childbirth.
