School of Modern Languages and Linguistics Open Days

All applicants receiving offers are invited to attend an Open Day in the Department, where you will have the opportunity to learn more about our courses and life at the University and in Sheffield.
- find out about the course programme and the course structure
- find out about the facilities of the School of Modern Languages and Linguistics
- meet members of staff and ask questions
- talk to current students who can share their experiences with you
- have a look around the Students' Union, other parts of the campus and the city
Open Days for students who have been offered a place on one of our degree programmes are organised at School (SOMLAL) level. This is so that applicants who are planning to take more than one language can visit other departments on the same day.
Booking your place
Our Open Days will take place in February and March 2012. Offer holders will receive an invitation by e-mail to attend the open day for the particular subject combination. In that e-mail, we will give instructions and a Personal ID, so that each candidate can book their place in the open day for the degree programme they have applied for.
If you have received an offer from SOMLAL and would like to come to an open day, please follow the link on the right hand side of the page to book your place. You will need your Personal ID code provided by the University.
If you would like to attend one of the Open Days and you have not received an e-mail invitation from us, or for further queries, please email us at somlal-enquiries@sheffield.ac.uk or phone on 0114 222 4396. You can also visit the SOMLAL Open Days web page.
University Open Days
There are also general University Open Days, on which you are taken on a guided tour of the University, giving you a chance to get a feel for what studying and living in Sheffield will be like. These Open Days are typically held in June, July and September and you have to register for them. You can find out more from the Open Days website:
