What is Sheffield University GRADSchool?
The Sheffield GRAD School - SUGS, organised by the University Careers Service in partnership with Research and Innovation Services, is a three day non -residential course. It is modelled closely on the national GRAD Schools organised by Vitae and supported by the Research Councils. The Sheffield model is designed to give course participants the opportunity to reflect on their career plans and develop their communication, team working and critical thinking skills through a range of learning activities which are both interesting and fun.
There is a key emphasis on employability skills and personal effectiveness to help achieve progress within research training and preparation for careers both within and outside academia. It will provide an opportunity to work in a safe and supportive environment helping enhance existing skills such as communication, working with others, and improving learning, performance and problem solving.
The course will be delivered by a Course Director and a team of experienced facilitators who will help participants raise awareness of skills and abilities and broaden your horizons. To this effect it aims to help researchers be more effective in their research and make more informed career choices. Progress can also be recorded in the Course Learning Diary- see download on right hand side for more details.
The course is aimed at all research disciplines with a key emphasis on collaboration.
All course participants will be invited to attend a pre-GRAD School briefing before the course commences.
